TOKYO (December 9th, 2024) – THine Electronics, Inc. For customers developing edge AI devices, THine provides circuit boards equipped with the essential components for development, in response to use cases that utilize cameras and/or displays, and THine plans to deploy software in order of the most highly demanded use cases.

Overview of the EdgeAI-LinkTM One-Stop Camera/Display Solution Using Smart Modules

Edge AI processing is required for customers’ use cases where cloud AI processing is not suitable due to response speed, Personal information protection, or data communication costs, but by utilizing the EdgeAI-LinkTM one-stop camera/display solution, customers can drastically shorten the time-to-market by using the necessary hardware and software, resulting in reducing total costs. It is possible to build compact, high-value-added edge AI devices in a short development period.

By utilizing the NPU on the Qualcomm’ SoC in the smart modules, edge AI processing can be performed on the main unit. Customers can choose from multiple AI processing capabilities ranging from 3.5 TOPS (terra operation per second, indicating the performance of AI processing) to 12 TOPS, and THine plans to expand its lineups with even faster speeds in the near future.

In addition, since it is generally difficult for customers to tune the image quality of the ISP (image signal processor) unit for image processing on system LSIs, THine provides supports for ISP image quality tuning, based on THine’s accumulated experiences in ISP supports for over 15 years.

Customer also can perform detailed AI analysis of image data after AI pre-processing by linking to the cloud through the SoC’s WiFi and Bluetooth, or through selecting 4G LTE models as well.

The main unit with the smart module is a circuit board that can input 4K video from two cameras and output it to a display. In addition to THine’s power management IC (PMIC), it also has a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) that protects the system board from static electricity.

The camera unit connected to the main unit is equipped with THine’s V-by-One® HS products for cameras, enabling data transmission of 4K video signals and control signals over a distance of up to 15 meters to the main unit.

In addition, the panel unit is equipped with our V-by-One® HS products for displays, enabling data transmission of image and control signals over a distance of up to 15 meters from the main unit. In addition, it is possible to transmit general-purpose input/output signals (GPIO) at high speed, and it has excellent response speed for control signals for touch panels on displays and interrupt signals for smart modules, as well as making it easy to design backlight control for LCD displays.
